Maintenance Requirements (page 1 of 2)

The smooth operation of all the gates is dependant on the level and plumb of the adjacent gate jambs and the adjacent boards. If the gate is not opening or closing properly or the push button is not functioning smoothly, then the plumb (alignment of the doors) or the level (the gate is higher or lower than the adjacent panel) is not correct. A change in the level and plumb of the gates is caused by the first temperature reduction, the expansion of ice that is too high, a movement in the concrete from frost heaving, riding the boards too hard when flooding or a combination of all. Do not worry, the adjustment is easy. And, especially, your boards are never permanently damaged by any of these causes.
|
Note: The hinges and latches, unlike some conventional systems, are are not adjustable. When your boards are level and plumb, the gates will operate smoothly. We do not want you to adjust your gates to suit out of level boards. We want you to keep your boards straight, so they look good at all times.
1) Always loosen the anchor bolt (4) and perhaps the next closest one.
Make adjustments in small increments and retighten the anchor bolts to judge the affect. If the affect is too much or not enough, then loosen the anchor bolts, try again and retighten to judge the affect again.
2)Loosen the lock nuts on the allen bolt (3) you are going to turn.
3)To tip the jamb in (towards the ice) turn the adjuster bolt (2) clockwise. If there is already tension on the bolt already, turning it counter clockwise will tip the jamb out.
4)To tip the jamb out (away from the ice) turn the adjuster bolt (1) clockwise. If there is already tension on the bolt already, turning it counter clockwise will tip the jamb in.
5)To raise the level of the jamb, turn both bolts clockwise (1 & 2) the same amount so as not to disturb the plumb. If there is tension on the bolts already, turning the bolts counter clockwise will lower the level of the jamb.
Note: An installation by Sport Systems will not use the adjuster bolts, the boards are shimmed independently, in many cases there is no further adjustment required.
Visual checks:
If the plastic top plate on the latch side of the gate is not exactly the same height as the adjacent top plate, adjust as directed above. If the latch side of the gate is lower than the adjacent panel, you must raise the level of the hinge side jamb. If the top plate on the latch side of the gate is higher than the adjacent panel, you must raise the level of the latch side jamb.
If the white plastic on the gate is not flush all the way down the gate, then the plumb is not correct. Push on the top of the boards either side of the gate to determine which direction corrects the out of plumb and adjust the plumb as directed above.
Note: If you are in doubt as to which jamb is out of plumb, or whether the gate or the adjacent panel is out of level, then use a 3ft. level to confirm the direction of the problem.
